Lee Chapel reflection -- William Zhou

Yesterday was my first visit to the Lee Chapel museum after being in the school for two years now, and I really regret not doing this two years ago. After I got to the back stage and actually paid close attention to Robert E. Lee's statue, it is actually a lot different from what I observed as an audience before. The statue actually depicts the moment when Lee was lying down on the battlefield, rather than after he passed away. And these details cannot be observed from downstage. The statue of Lee and the portrait of him hanging on the stage both raise a very interesting question, why would both of them depict Lee in his uniform, rather than what he looked like when he was the president of the school.
The primary reason why Mary Lee insisted to bury Robert E.Lee at Washington and Lee is because she thought he could rest peacefully at the place where he led and will always be treated with respect. Than it would make more sense to depict Lee as the school's president rather than General Lee in Lee Chapel.
