DC TRIP --WILLIAM ZHOU

Even though this wasn't my first time visiting those memorials, this trip is still a refreshing experience for me. All the previous work we did to better understand memorials in DC and the VE Day ceremony we witnessed are both critical parts of this refreshing trip.

Visiting the WWII memorial on VE Day helped to fully explain the intention of the design of the memorial. Even though the design makes the memorial stands out between Lincoln and Washington monument, it is not simply a memorial. It can also turn into a site capable of holding ceremonies to commemorate WWII related events.

I found the MLK memorial to be the most surprising memorial throughout the trip. Lots of people argue against the access point of this memorial because they feel like a large-sclae stares will lose its stateliness without access to view the statue from distance. But I think this statue makes better use of the natural view of the bay compare to other memorials around it. By making MLK staring at the lake gives the memorial site a sense of calmness. I found it to be greta stud not only to represent MLK himself, but also to carry forward what he believed in and fought for.
