Charlie Karp

As I walked past President Ruscio's garage, just as I have countless times before, I noticed a plaque memorial for Traveller. Traveller was General Lee's beloved horse. Shortly after Lee's death, Traveller stepped on a nail and developed tetanus. Traveller was killed to alleviate his suffering. To commemorate the Traveller's contributions to Robert E. Lee a plaque was placed on his former barn. The purpose of his home has transformed, in recent years, from a barn to a garage. It is customary that the door remain open to allow Traveller's spirit to roam free. Similar to the war dog memorials, this memorial commemorates the contributions of an animal to their owner.
